First Commonwealth is a consumer-friendly alternative to banking. We offer all the services you're accustomed to but at better rates and lower fees. That's because we're structured differently than banks. Banks are in business to earn profits for their stockholder investors. Our credit union exists to improve your financial wellbeing. We don't have stockholders. Instead, we're cooperatively owned by our members (account holders). We return our profits to you in the form of higher dividends on savings, lower rates on loans, and lower fees.
First Commonwealth is federally chartered by the National Credit Union Administration. We're governed by a member-elected, volunteer board of directors.

Northampton County’s rich past and historic settings have enhanced the quality of life we enjoy today. It’s a tradition that continues to shape our vibrant present and create our dynamic future.Like most of the eastern half of Pennsylvania, Northampton County’s history is directly tied to William Penn. Penn received his famous land grant from King Charles II – named Pennsylvania (Penn’s Woods) by the king himself – as the settlement of a debt owed his late Father, Admiral Penn, in March 1681. History has recorded that King Charles II had absolutely no concept of North American geography, so the grant provided to the “godfather” of Pennsylvania is a rough document and difficult to comprehend, but the grant clearly states that the lands “west of the Delaware River” were included as part of the grant, encompassing the rich area of Pennsylvania that eventually became known as Northampton County.

Benefactors:

“There’s a certain power in numbers,” the old saying goes. And nowhere is that more true than at RLB Accountants. Formed in 2009 by the combination of four major Lehigh Valley based accounting firms, the company now known as RLB currently employs more than 30 individuals in offices located in Allentown, Easton, and Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Chartered on October 24, 1907 with a capital stock of $25,000, First Northern Bank & Trust officially opened for business on January 6, 1908. The Borough of Palmerton's first financial institution established its office in a small brick building on Delaware Avenue. In years to come, this same location would be home to the Palmerton Lighting Company and, more recently, a florist.
Thanks to the loyalty of thousands of customers, First Northern Bank & Trust continues to grow and prosper in four of Northeastern Pennsylvania's most beautiful counties: Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton. As our history proves, an unwavering commitment to providing quality financial services has played a critical role in our success. Originally born of the needs of a fledgling community, we have evolved into a rock-solid, caring, concerned citizen...interested and active in the current affairs of the communities we are privileged to serve. First Northern Bank & Trust, a sole subsidiary of Palm-Bancorp, Inc. (a unitary bank holding company), is a state chartered bank operating under the Office of the Federal Reserve.
